Namutumba NUP Leaders Defect to NRM
Flag bearers and mobilizers in Namutumba, previously affiliated with the National Unity Platform (NUP), have defected to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the 2026 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Led by Yusufu Dabada, former contestant for the Busiki MP seat in the 2021 general elections, the group was formally introduced to NRM party Vice Chairman, Capt Mike George Mukula in Bugolobi.
Dabada explained that their decision to switch allegiance to the ruling party stemmed from NUP’s perceived lack of a coherent strategy to effect significant change.
Having secured third place with approximately 5000 votes among nine candidates in the 2021 Busiki MP race, Dabada expressed his intention to shift his efforts from mobilizing for NUP to supporting the NRM.
Yusufu Dabada boasts a background as the former District Vice Chairman and District Youth Councillor, as well as serving as the Secretary of Finance for Namutumba District Local Government.
He previously held positions as the inaugural Acting NUP Youth Coordinator for Busoga Sub-region, NUP MP flag bearer, and, at the time of his defection, was fulfilling duties as Namutumba District Coordinator for NUP.
Additionally, Dabada is recognized as a prominent sports journalist, contributing to NBS Radio Jinja, and is involved in business ventures.
