Namugongo Locals Terrified As Iron Bar Hit Men Kill Lawyer

Local leaders in Namugongo say Alweny's death is an unfortunate incident among several other similar robberies registered in the area.

Locals residing in the areas of Kira and Namugongo divisions want police to tighten the grip on increased crime and iron bar attacks.

This concern was raised by local leaders after the demise of a female lawyer who died after being attacked by iron bar hit men while on her way home.

Alweny, a lawyer working with Liberty General Insurance was hit by unknown assailants on Friday last week on the back of the head and face with a blunt object along Kiwatule-Naalya road.

Police rushed her to Mulago hospital following information of an unconscious person lying on the ground but she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire says preliminary findings suggest that the deceased was a victim of aggravated robbery because unspecified amounts of money and phones were stolen from her.

“The deceased called her husband Peter Oketcho at 8:45 pm to know whether he had reached home. She informed him how she had branched to buy roasted goat’s meat opposite Cynabel supermarket.” Owoyesigyire said.

Local leaders in Namugongo say Alweny’s death is an unfortunate incident among several other similar robberies registered in the area.

Last month, George Ekochu, an auditor and relative to Eastern Region chairman cpt. Mike Mukula was hit by the iron bar hit-men in Namugongo-Buloli zone.

The deceased’s wife Jocelyn Ekochu told Police when she moved out of the home to search for her husband, she found his hat lying by the roadside.

Local leaders in the area want police to crack down on increased crime in the area.

Michel Ssendawula, the Chairman of Nsawo zone in Namugongo says there is need for intense security in the area and a crackdown on gangs that have claimed lives and stolen properties in Kira Municipality, .

Ssendawula says they have registered several complaints of motorists and pedestrians being attacked, killed, or injured by criminal gangs.

Owoyesigyire says that the police have since intensified motorized patrols in the area.

“We have increased operations to ensure crime in the area goes down. It has not been the norm but admits we have started to see a spike in crime in the area and more emphasis is going to be done to rid the area of crime.”says Owoyesigyire
