Mutebile brothers battle for Kabale Municipality seat
The battle for the Kabale Municipality parliamentary seat is set to become a family affair after two siblings of Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Tumusime-Mutebile indicated that they are ready to go neck to neck in a bid to win people’s mandate come 2021.
Maj Gen Timothy Sabiti Mutebile and his young brother Joseph Mutebile, who are young brothers of Governor Mutebile, have started a war of words ahead of the 2021 elections.
Maj Gen Sabiti Mutebile retired recently as the commander of the engineering Brigade in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces to join politics. Mr Joseph Mutebile, on the other hand, is a banker who has contested twice and lost (2006 and 2011).
However, both have claimed that they are the rightful people to unseat the incumbent, Mr Andrew Baryayanga, an independent.
Maj Gen Mutebile has rebuked his brother Joseph, saying how can he want to contest when he hardly raised 1% of the votes in the last elections.
He added that while Joseph is free to contest, the latter is fighting a losing battle and won’t get anywhere.
In response, Mr Joseph Mutebile said: “He thinks I have scored less than one percent but let him step in the race and test the water; he will tell us its temperatures.”
Maj Gen Mutebile was early this year welcomed to Kabale where a party was made to congratulate him upon being promoted to the rank of Major General.
The incumbent, Mr Baryayanga, who has held the seat since 2011, trounced Prof Augustus Nuwagaba, the poverty eradication expert and Dr. Francis Runumi in the last elections. Mr Baryayanga enjoys youth support for mainly engaging them in sports especially football.
