Muslims to Celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday
worshippers are expected to congregate at mosques nationwide for special Eid prayers.
Muslims in Uganda are set to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, as the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan remained unseen on Monday evening.
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) declared this decision following the moon sighting committee’s unsuccessful search.
Addressing the nation, Dr. Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, Director of Sharia at UMSC, affirmed, “After thorough assessments and consultations with moon sighting committees across Uganda, it has been ascertained that the crescent moon has not been sighted this evening. Hence, Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Wednesday, April 10th.”
In line with this, the Muslim leadership in Saudi Arabia echoed a similar sentiment, encouraging believers to utilize the remaining days of Ramadan for virtuous deeds.
This announcement may disappoint many Ugandans who anticipated celebrating Eid on Tuesday. However, the additional day for reflection and prayer at the close of the holy month of Ramadan is a result of this postponement.
Eid al-Fitr, also dubbed the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” marks the culmination of Ramadan, a period devoted to fasting, prayer, and self-reflection.
Come Wednesday morning, worshippers are expected to congregate at mosques nationwide for special Eid prayers.
Families will prepare traditional meals, exchange blessings, and cherish moments together.
