Museveni Urges Milk Farmers to Diversify into Casein and Powdered Milk

President Yoweri Museveni has urged diary farmers to diversify to production to casein and powdered milk.

He made the call while meeting with dairy farmers from Kazo and Kiruhura districts at Karo Primary School in Nshwere.

President Museveni urged dairy farmers to transition from conventional liquid milk production to exploring the promising avenues of casein and powdered milk.

He explained  that this has the potential for increased longevity and more favorable prices in the international market.

“I emphasised the need to shift our focus from liquid milk to processed products like casein and powdered milk for the international market.

These products have great potential for longevity and better prices.” He said

He told the gathered farmers that while liquid milk posed challenges for exportation due to its weight and associated costs, processing it into powdered form could render it more manageable and less expensive.

“Liquid milk is heavy and very costly for exportation, but if you take time and process it into powdered milk, it becomes light and less expensive.”

He further stated that with the annual production of five billion litres of milk, its important for farmers to meet external market requirements.

The President acknowledged  that the diary industry has massively improved but now is the time to explore the challenge of insufficient  markets for Uganda’s products.

He also advised livestock farmers to invest in animal vaccination for better quality, explaining that the new anti tick vaccine , still in trial, will help tremendously.

“Iam convinced that this new drug is going to be effective. If it succeeds, it will be openly and officially legalized for public use” he stated
