Museveni Tours Karuma Construction Site
National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni toured the $1.3b (sh4.7 trillion) Karuma Dam in Kiryandongo district to check on the progress of the construction works.
“I took a brief tour of Karuma Hydropower Project (600MW). This project once complete will bring our power generation capacity to 1,868MW. This power will run our factories and attract more investment,” Museveni noted in a tweet.
“Once Karuma is complete, our country’s electricity generation capacity will be 1,868MW, up from the 60MW we generated in 1986. This will enhance the industrialization drive we have embarked on. The many factories coming up need affordable electricity to operate and break-even,” the President said in a tweet before.
Karuma Hydroelectric Power Station is a 600 MW hydroelectric power project that when completed will be the largest power-generating installation in the country.
The construction of Karuma was launched in 2013 and was scheduled to be completed within six years in December 2019.
This date was extended to January 2020 and now to December 2020.
