Museveni to preside over retirement of 19 UPDF generals

President Museveni who is also the commander of the armed forces will this evening host 19 generals who have been cleared for retirement.

The 19 will today be awarded certificates for their recognition to the UPDF and the country at large at State House, Nakasero.

This was confirmed by the UPDF spokesman Brig Richard Karemire in a tweet.

The UPDF salutes the gallant 19 General Officers set to retire today at a ceremony presided over by H.E the President and Commander in Chief of the UPDF. Their years of sacrifice during active military service have not been in vain. Uganda is now very peaceful. We wish them well,” Brig Karemire tweeted.

Some of the generals on the list include Gen. Joram Mugume, Maj Gen Sam Turyagyenda, Brig Gen Ramadan Kyamulesire, Maj Gen Timothy Sabiiti Mutebile, and Brig Gen Charles Angulo Wacha.

Others are; Brig Gen Sam Kakuru, Brig Gen Mathew Ssewankambo, Maj Gen. Jimmy Wills Byarugaba, Maj Gen Sam Wasswa Mutesasira, Brig Gen Gyagenda Kibirango, Maj Gen Ambrose Musinguzi, Brig Gen Mulondo, and Brig Gen John Mulindwa.

It has now become a tradition for senior UPDF officers to retire. Last year, the UPDF retired 11 army generals at a function held at State House, Entebbe.

The retirees then included 6 major generals and 5 brigadier generals who had served in the forces from 1963.
