Museveni to engage army court over Kayihura case

President Yoweri Museveni has promised to consult the army court-martial and make effort for a pardon of the former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura.

Museveni, also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, made the promise during a scientific campaign meeting in Kisoro district on Monday.

“As you have said, there are those who committed big offenses and we forgave them. Since the seating of elders of Kisoro has requested me, I will speak to the military persecution and tell them about your petition and make an effort of my own,” he stated.

Kayihura was arrested in 2018 on charges of failure to protect war materials and aiding and abetting kidnapping.

Although he was later released on court bail, his case has never been concluded. The General can only travel with permission from the military court.

He is also not deployed at the moment.
