Museveni Says Uganda’s Oil Exploration Plans Won’t be Determined in EU Parliament

President Yoweri Museveni has  said Uganda will proceed with it’s target of having her first oil out of the ground by 2025 despite a resolution by the European Parliament to interfere with it’s plans.

This comes after the EU Parliament urged oil companies in EU member states to stop the exploration of Uganda’s oil on grounds of environmental concerns.

However, in a message shared on his official social media channels, the Ugandan President said that if TotalEnergies and CNOOC that are from EU countries decide to listen to the EU Parliament regarding stoppage of the process, Uganda will find other partners to work with.

Full statement

The remarks of the Deputy Speaker and the Attorney General in one of the dailies concerning the EU Parliament and EACOP interested me in making some comments of reassurance to our people.

I want to assure you that the project shall proceed as stipulated in the contract we have with TotalEnergies and CNOOC.

We should remember that Total Energies convinced me about the Pipeline idea; if they choose to listen to the EU Parliament, we shall find someone else to work with.

Either way, we shall have our oil coming out by 2025 as planned. So, the people of Uganda should not worry.
