The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has questioned the credibility of the National Unity Platform (NUP) membership register, describing the opposition party as “shallow and disorganized.”
Speaking during an NRM presidential campaign rally at Bukedea District Headquarters, Museveni cited a recent incident in which NUP attempted to nominate Florence Asio, a relative of Speaker Anita Annet Among, to contest against her for the Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament seat, before realizing late in the process that she was ineligible.
“This confusion shows you that NUP is shallow. They cannot even authenticate who their members are. How do you nominate someone without verifying basic information?” Museveni told supporters.
The NRM candidate said the ruling party maintains strict internal procedures to ensure credibility, unlike opposition parties that “operate in disorder and confusion.”
Museveni also commended the NRM fraternity in Bukedea and other regions where candidates have gone unopposed, saying it demonstrates unity, discipline, and confidence in the party’s leadership.
“Where we have unopposed candidates, like Hon. Anita Among here in Bukedea, we have saved both time and resources. It shows NRM’s strength and the people’s trust in our system,” Museveni added.
The President urged NRM leaders and supporters to continue promoting peace and development, emphasizing that the party’s unity remains a key pillar of Uganda’s progress.
