The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has promised to establish a permanent military barracks in Kibale Forest in Kamwenge District to enhance security around the tourism corridor.
The pledge was made in response to a request by the Kamwenge District NRM Chairperson, Frank Tumwebaze, during Museveni’s campaign rally at Kyabenda Primary School Playgrounds.

President Museveni urged residents of Kamwenge to uphold peace and security, noting that these were dividends of the NRM government that must be protected for continued development.
During the same rally, the NRM flagbearer announced several new wealth-creation and social support initiatives, including additional financial schemes for Village Health Teams (VHTs), support for boda boda riders, increased coffee seedling distribution, and the establishment of an industrial park for Kamwenge District.

Museveni said the contribution of VHTs and other key service providers remains highly valued by the government and assured residents that further empowerment programmes have been planned.

He also revealed government plans to upgrade key road networks, including the Kihura–Kahunje–Bwizi–Mpara Road and the Kamwenge–Kongoro–Forest–Rwimi Road, in order to improve mobility and interconnectivity across the district. He highlighted ongoing progress in electricity distribution, improved telecommunications, expanded water networks, and other infrastructure developments.

Addressing household income, the NRM candidate encouraged residents to adopt productive enterprises such as poultry, dairy farming, coffee production, fish farming, and piggery—emphasizing proper enterprise selection and sustainable land use for both small- and large-scale farmers.

Museveni further recommended scaling up irrigation initiatives, citing the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID) in Bushenyi as a model for modern commercial agriculture.
He reaffirmed the NRM government’s strategy to expand industrial towns as part of its broader plan to create jobs in agriculture, manufacturing, and the services sector. The candidate also outlined the various employment opportunities available within these sectors and pledged increased support for commercial farmers.
