President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered a security operation targeting individuals responsible for the vandalism of electricity transmission infrastructure in the Greater Luwero sub-region, a vice he said is threatening the country’s economic progress.
The directive was issued on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, during a media interaction at Luwero State Lodge, where the President met local journalists as part of his ongoing tour to assess implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other wealth creation programmes.
President Museveni directed the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to coordinate a joint operation by security agencies to arrest and dismantle the criminal network behind the vandalism of metallic transmission towers.
“This group must be uprooted completely. Their activities are causing persistent power interruptions, and we shall not allow this sabotage to continue,” Museveni stated firmly.
The President noted that scrap dealers were allegedly buying stolen tower parts, contributing to increased damage to key infrastructure in the region.
Museveni also pledged Shs100 million and a media bus to support the Greater Luwero Journalists Association, urging them to use their platforms to mobilize communities toward wealth creation.
“Use your media to teach the people about PDM, enterprise selection, and how to build sustainable household incomes. That’s where the real change begins,” he advised.
Responding to complaints about deteriorating roads in the region, the President directed State House engineers to immediately assess the condition of the road connecting Luwero Town to Nakaseta and other key routes that are hindering economic activity.
Museveni is currently touring the Greater Luwero sub region, during which he visited several PDM beneficiary farmers and offered financial support to expand agricultural productivity.
The President reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling service delivery gaps in infrastructure, security, and rural financing as part of Uganda’s broader economic transformation agenda.
