Museveni Tasks Religious Leaders to Lead Fight Against Poverty
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has tasked religious leaders in the Rwenzori sub region to join in the fight against poverty by mobilizing their flock to embrace existing government programs.
The President passed his message through the State Minister for National Guidance, Godffrey Kabyanga at the official opening of Nyakasanga Grace Healing Centre in Nyakasanga, Kasese municipality on Sunday evening.
President Museveni said religious leaders should not only dwell on the spiritual being of their people but also must mobilise the masses to take up different projects to enhance their incomes. He commended the religious institutions for fostering morals and urged them to continue the fight against corruption.
Museveni also asked religious, cultural and political leaders in the region to advocate for peace, unity and development of the population. He pledged continuous support to the religious institutions towards development.
Bishop John Ahebwa, the asked politicians in the region to avoid selfish tendencies and instead embrace on supporting institutions and individuals that are geared towards promoting development.
Museveni contributed more than 70 million shillings towards construction of the church.
