Museveni Applauds Busoga’s Role in NRM Victory
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commended the people of Busoga for their role in the prolonged struggle that led to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s establishment in 1986.
During the 38th NRM victory anniversary celebrations in Jinja City, he expressed gratitude for the support received from figures like Eng. Sam Kasadha, William Nkoko, Rashid Ntale, James Mbigit, and Badru Lubanga.
The President, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, emphasized the importance of embracing the four-acre model for sustainable livelihoods, urging locals to focus on crops suitable for small land, such as coffee, fruits, and food crops.
President Museveni highlighted the need to preserve swamps for irrigation instead of encroaching on them for rice cultivation. He urged the people of Busoga to support his efforts against those hindering Universal Primary Education (UPE) and emphasized the government’s commitment to address the issue in the coming Financial Year. Additionally, the President addressed concerns raised during a stopover in Nyenga, promising to investigate the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds and potholes on recently completed roads.
Addressing opposition tactics, President Museveni exposed an incident where an accident victim, Moses Ssimbwa, confessed to being used by the opposition to falsely accuse the government of torture. The President assured the public that the government would expose such deceptive practices and reiterated the nation’s strength, built with the support of leaders like Mwalimu Nyerere and Samora Machel.
