Muhammad Ssegirinya’s Burial Scheduled for Sunday

The body of Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, will be laid to rest on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

This is after the legislator’s dying wishes were honored and permission granted from Muslim leaders to delay his burial.

This decision was  also made to allow time for Parliament, family members abroad, and constituents to pay their final respects to the late legislator.

Ssegirinya passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Lubaga Hospital in Kampala. According to a program shared by the National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, the party will honor Ssegirinya with a vigil at its headquarters in Makerere Kavuule.

“Muhammad Ssegirinya was a devoted Muslim who deeply respected his faith. By his wishes, as expressed in his will, and considering the requests from his brothers abroad, the family sought permission from the Muslim leadership. Thankfully, their request was granted,” Kyagulanyi said during an address at lubaga Hospital.

The funeral arrangements include an eventful itinerary to honor Ssegirinya’s public service and faith. On Friday, January 10, his body will be taken to Parliament for MPs to pay their respects. This will be followed by prayers at Mbogo-Kawempe Mosque.

On Sunday, January 12, he will be laid to rest in Masaka, his ancestral home.

Ssegirinya was known as a passionate advocate for his constituents and a devoted member of his faith. The delay in his burial underscores his significant role in Uganda’s political landscape and the high regard in which he was held by his party, family, and the nation at large.
