A 24-year-old headteacher at New Hope Academy Nursery and Primary in Mubende District has been arrested over allegations of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old pupil.
Thembo Joel, who also serves as the school’s director, is reported to reside in Kyamukona Cell, West Division, Mubende Municipality.
According to Lameck Kigozi, the spokesperson for the Uganda Police Force in the Wamala region, allegations emerged after a concerned community member alerted authorities, revealing that the boy had been repeatedly assaulted. The information was reportedly passed on by another pupil who witnessed or learned of the incidents.
Kigozi says medical examinations conducted on the victim confirmed the abuse, prompting immediate action. The suspect has been taken into custody and faces charges of sexual molestation.
Authorities say the young victim is receiving care and support while investigations continue. Officials are appealing to anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing inquiry.
