Mpanga Market Lauded for Driving Economic Growth
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government Ben Kumumanya has commended Mpanga Market in Fort Portal City for its transformative role in uplifting livelihoods by driving economic growth, and improving community welfare.
During his visit to the fully-occupied market and other development projects in the area, Mr. Kumumanya highlighted the markets’ contribution to the success of the Parish Development Model (PDM) by connecting farmers to ready markets.
While addressing the market vendors and local leaders Mr. Kumumanya pledged to work with City authorities to address challenges faced by the vendors, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting local businesses.
He emphasized the importance of modern markets like Mpanga in fostering economic stability and development across the country.
He called for collective efforts to ensure Mpanga Market remains a model of progress and opportunities.
The Market Vendors expressed their gratitude to Government for the market, noting its positive impact on their businesses noting that the well-organized environment has significantly boosted trade and improved working conditions.
With 600 Stalls, 200 shops and 400 piches, Mpanga Is the largest market in Fort portal City. It was Constructed in 2013 with funding from the African Development Bank under the first phase of Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Program, (MATIP).
