MP Ordered to Leave House After Admitting he Traveled to South Korea

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has asked Hon Anthony Akol to leave the Chambers after his admission that he travelled to South Korea and later to South Africa.

“You admitted to the Hansard that you travelled to these places. Please go and self-quarantine yourself,”  she said.

This was during a live Plenary session in Parliament.

The Minister of State for Sports, Hon Denis Obua said that the ministry will act if advised by the Ministry of Health to cancel the activities planned for the Uganda Friendship week in the wake of the coronavirus.

State Minister for Ministry of Health, Robinah Nabbanja says all persons coming into the country should be screened on arrival at Entebbe Airport and the same will be done with the former footballers coming for the game on the March 22.

Several countries across the globe are currently grappling with the coronavirus (COVID-19). Common signs of infection, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), include fever, cough, and shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Whereas there is no vaccine for the disease yet, health practitioners have come out to sensitise the masses on preventive measures.

Whereas 11 countries have reported cases of COVID-19, with DR Congo being the latest,  Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said this should not be a cause for concern.  “DR Congo has only one case and it was of a Belgium national that travelled to the country.

That is what we call an imported case. When you have an imported case, then you trace the contacts. We are not worried about this case spreading into Uganda since he is already known and is under isolation,” Aceng said.

That notwithstanding, the minister said continued screening measures are in place at all border points, including Mpondwe in Kasese district.
