MP Magoola Urges Women to Lead Environmental Conservation Efforts
Bugweri District Woman Member of Parliament, Rachel Magoola, has urged women to take the lead in preserving the environment to mitigate prolonged dry spells.
Magoola emphasized that women bear the brunt of dry spells, struggling to feed their children and sourcing water.
She made these remarks during the belated Women’s Day celebration for Bugweri District at Mulanga Primary School grounds, Ibulanku village, Ibulanku Sub County. Magoola urged residents to plant trees to promote environmental conservation in the district.
“We’ve experienced unprecedented dry spells, highlighting the crucial need for tree planting. Unfortunately, women are disproportionately affected, facing challenges in feeding their families as they cannot tend to their gardens,” Magoola stated, pledging to distribute tree seedlings across sub-counties for planting.
While International Women’s Day was celebrated nationally in Katakwi District on March 8, Bugweri District chose to commemorate it belatedly this week. Magoola also assured residents that the Ministry of Works has procured road equipment for Bugweri District to rehabilitate its roads, which are currently in poor condition.
“Poor roads disproportionately affect women, particularly when accessing essential services like maternity care. I’m pleased to announce that the Ministry of Works has acquired road equipment for Bugweri District, including a grader and a wheel loader. Now, they are seeking operators for these machines,” Magoola affirmed.
She commended the unity displayed by women from various sub-counties in Bugweri District and urged them to continue striving for development and improved household incomes.
