Last week, shocking news waves hit our news desk of a mother who had devoured her own child and allegedly eaten the child’s intestines and cut out her private parts.
Doctors at Mulago hospital, on carrying out a postmortem were flabbergasted to find that most of the deceased one-year old baby’s internal organs were missing. The doctor’s alerted the police who immediately swung into action and picked up a one Harriet Nakalema 32 years old, a maid in Kiwatule.
The neighbors helped in the investigations and their collaborated stories revealed that the night of the incident, they heard a lot of screaming and noises coming out of the alleged suspects apartment, all in “pretense” of praise and worship.
Neighbors also go on to suggest, this might have all been to cover up the horrific act that they were doing in their apartment, and to reduce suspicion.
Mothers are known to fend for and care for their young, with some spices even laying down their lives to ensure their young ones stay alive. However, So unnatural and bizarre was the alleged murder that the investigative team decided to subject the suspect to a mental-check-up.
The results from butabika Mental referral hospital have come out and Proved that she is indeed sane and fit to stand trial according to police deputy spokesperson, Patrick Onyango.
In a statement Nakalema admitted that she stabbed her child and ate the intestines because she was possessed by evil spirits.
Nakalema and two other accomplices are currently detained at kira Road Police station on charges of murder.
