Police in Kampala are holding a 24-year-old woman in connection with the alleged murder of her three-year-old daughter in Lusaze Zone, Rubaga Division.

The incident occurred on February 24, 2026, at approximately 5:00am in Lusaze, Kampala District. The deceased has been identified as Ayongeirwe Neila.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, identified as Aine Shivan, allegedly stabbed her biological daughter while her husband, Bakwatanisa Dickson, was away from home. Following the incident, the suspect reportedly attempted to take her own life by inflicting cuts on her neck.

SP Racheal Kawala stated that the suspect has since been arrested and is currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision. She remains in custody as investigations continue.

Preliminary findings further suggest that the couple had unresolved domestic violence-related issues, which police are examining as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Authorities have urged the public to seek support in cases of domestic conflict and to report incidents of violence to prevent similar tragedies.
