Police in Ntunda Town Council, Kyankwanzi District, have launched investigations after an irate mob lynched a suspect in custody for the murder of a married couple.
The suspect, identified as Senkula Amon, had been arrested early on Tuesday morning, February 17, following the killing of Sentongo Awali and his wife, Doreen Ayebare, whose bodies were discovered on February 14, 2026.
According to the police spokesman for Wamala Region, Lameck Kigozi, Senkula Amon confessed to the murders and led investigators to the location where he had hidden the weapon used in the killings. At approximately 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18, the District Police Commander of Kyankwanzi, together with detectives and security guards, accompanied the suspect to a forest in Bakulimya Village, Ndairinga Ward, Ntunda Subcounty.
Kigozi explains that it was at this location that an irate mob from Ntunda Town and surrounding areas, armed with pangas, sticks, clubs, stones, bricks, and spears, ambushed the police team. The mob attacked the suspect, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.
Police confirmed that the act of mob justice is deeply regrettable. “Our intent as police was to have Senkula Amon prosecuted according to the law. Investigations into the mob attack and identification of its perpetrators are underway,” said Kigozi.
Authorities are urging the public to allow the law to take its course and refrain from taking justice into their own hands.
