The Ministry of Works and Transport, has begun the construction of the Gayaza-Kalagi road, which stretches from Kyabakadde to Gayaza, covering areas such as Kalagala, Nakasajja, Nakwero, Kijabijjo, and Manyangwa.
According to the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the ongoing road construction, which is 90% complete, is part of President Yoweri Museveni’s commitment to improving transport and communication across Uganda.
During a site visit on officials from the Ministry observed asphalt overlay works being carried out by the ministry’s construction unit.
They assured the local residents that the completed road will provide quality service, especially in areas like Kyabakadde, Gayaza, and neighboring regions.
“Before our intervention, areas like Kalagala, Nakasajja, Nakwero, Kijabijjo, and Manyangwa were nearly impossible to access for both motorists and pedestrians. However, with the ongoing construction, these areas will be fully passable, leading to smoother traffic flow and better service delivery,” the Ministry of Works reported.
Susan Kataike, the Principal Communications Officer at the Ministry, highlighted that once completed, the road will be a vital infrastructure link that will significantly improve service delivery.
It will facilitate the movement of people and goods, stimulate local economic growth, and enhance trade opportunities.
The improved road connectivity will make it easier for local communities to access markets, lower transportation costs, and attract more businesses.
The Gayaza-Kalagi road project is part of the government’s broader initiative to modernize rural road networks, unlocking the economic potential of local communities and improving access to essential services.
