The UPDF Chief Political Commissar Brig Henry Masiko has appealed to residents in Kitgum district to invest in prevention against diseases other than treatment.

He explained that mechanisms that prevent diseases are much cheaper than the actual treatment itself.

Brig Masiko said this during the donation of over six thousand (6000) mosquito nets to patients and staff in Kitgum General Hospital.

The Chief Political Commissar highlighted that such protective gear against the killer malaria will save thousands of people and reduces Government expenditure.

Brig Masiko further noted that civil-military exercise will cement the relationship between UPDF and the people.

“This light but significant work demonstrates the role of both the Army and the people in ensuring the security of the country,” said Brig Masiko. He commended area leaders for supporting government programs in a bid to eradicate poverty.

Dr Geoffrey Okello saluted UPDF for identifying with the people in Acholi sub-region, adding that this significant act will reduce the burden of malaria that has claimed thousands in the region.

Meanwhile, in Pader District, UPDF medics were involved in free Safe Male Circumcision, general medicine, minor surgeries, HIV/AIDS Counselling and Testing, among others. Maj Dr Kimuli was overwhelmed with the massive turn-up and noted that these static and mobile medical services will encourage the population to associate more with UPDF.
