Ministry of Finance Considers Tax Penalty Waiver for Traders
Kasaija pledged to consider waiving penalties for traders with outstanding EFRIS fines to promote compliance.
During a meeting between the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development and Kampala traders, Minister Matia Kasaija pledged to consider waiving penalties for traders with outstanding EFRIS fines to promote compliance.
He instructed the Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to provide a list of such traders.
Concerns raised by traders included the VAT threshold, EFRIS, import duty tax, valuation guidelines, anti-competition practices, and Uganda’s competitiveness.
Ministers Kasaija and David Bahati agreed to consult on proposals to adjust the VAT threshold and rates within two weeks.
URA will establish a dedicated office in Kikuubo for EFRIS support.
Kasaija affirmed continued EFRIS implementation but emphasized taxpayer sensitization.
Additionally, the Ministry of Trade will finalize regulations to enforce the recently endorsed Competition Law to address anti-competition practices.
City traders, led by Katongole Godfrey of KATA, urged URA to conduct more EFRIS sensitization before full adoption.
