Minister Odongo Expresses Gratitude to NAM Delegates

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeje Odong has expressed gratitude over the delegates that have already arrived for NAM Summit.

In his speech before a distinguished gathering during the opening of the Senior Officials segment of the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Jeje Odong extended a warm welcome, expressing gratitude to Azerbaijan for their steadfast leadership during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Acknowledging the complexity of the global landscape, Minister Odong highlighted the enduring relevance of the Ten Bandung Principles and the pivotal role of NAM in addressing contemporary challenges. Armed conflicts, food insecurity, migration, unemployment, health pandemics, climate change, and terrorism—all stood as formidable issues demanding collective action.

Reflecting on Uganda’s commitment to multilateralism and solidarity, the minister emphasized the need for a united response to future challenges. The theme of the summit, “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,” resonated as a clarion call for collaborative efforts within NAM.

Expressing joy over the Member State delegations’ engagement with the Kampala Declaration, Minister Odong anticipated crucial deliberations during the Senior Officials meeting. He eagerly awaited the results, emphasizing the importance of finding common ground on pressing issues.

In a light-hearted moment, the minister encouraged participants not only to confine themselves to the conference venues and the city but also to explore the diverse beauty of Uganda. The call to appreciate the country’s flora, fauna, and the warm hospitality of its people added a touch of camaraderie to the diplomatic proceedings.
As the summit unfolded, the stage was set for meaningful collaboration and shared aspirations for a better, more affluently connected world.
