The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sam Kuteesa, has inaugurated the newly refurbished and expanded office premises of the Uganda High Commission Chancery in the Tanzanian Capital of Dar-es-Salaam.

Minister Kuteesa said at the inaugural ceremony that a magnificent mission building for Uganda in Tanzania goes a long way to emphasize the implementation of a shift from the traditional practices dedicated to managing only bilateral relations and entering into commercial dealings with a view to promoting trade and investment in a diversity of sectors such as tourism.

“Uganda is a welcoming country with hospitality and good relations that must be reciprocated for both sides to feel at home,” he said.

The Minister commended the Government of Uganda for availing the resources for the refurbishment and extension of the country’s high Commission premises in Dar-es-Salaam that has seen the creation of more office space.

“It’s good to have a flag but it is equally important to have a home that is magnificent,” he said.

The Minister of State for Lands, Persis Namuganza, thanked Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Ambassador Richard Kabonero, for using national resources profitably. She noted that every portion of land added to Uganda, is a blessing.

High Commissioner Richard Kabonero on his part said the new home for the Ugandan mission in Dar-es-Salaam, is a pride to Ugandans in Tanzania.

Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Mr. Patrick Mugoya, expressed happiness that the Government of Uganda has embarked on the renovation or construction of new homes for Uganda missions abroad like in Kigali Rwanda, Bujumbura in Burundi and Juba in South Sudan, among others.

Presidency Minister, Hon. Esther Mbayo, that of Public Service, Hon. Muruli Mukasa, Uganda’s Defence Attaché in Tanzania, Maj. Gen. Steven Kashaka and the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Hood Katuramu, witnessed the inaugural ceremony.
