Health Minister Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng, along with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, have inaugurated a state-of-the-art Endoscopy Centre and a top-notch Minimally Invasive Theatre in Mulago Refferal Hospital.

Accompanied by the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, and the South Korean Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Park Sung-soo, the launch marked the Upscale of Minimally Invasive Surgery and the establishment of the state-of-the-art Endoscopy Centre at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

This initiative signifies a significant milestone in enhancing Uganda’s healthcare infrastructure and improving access to advanced medical services for the public.

During the commissioning of the center, the Minister revealed how minimally invasive surgery, aided by technology from the Republic of Korea, has significantly enhanced Uganda’s surgical infrastructure, bringing world-class healthcare to its hospitals.

Aceng emphasized the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two countries in strengthening healthcare systems.

Furthermore, Aceng mentioned that the Republic of Korea has donated USD 10 million to automate hospital activities through a hospital-integrated management system and infection management and control. This substantial donation is set to transform Mulago National Referral Hospital into a highly efficient institution.

The endoscopy center boasts more than 10 endoscopic and laparoscopic towers or machines, including x-ray machines, endoscopes, laparoscopes, surgical gowns, and other consumables and is located on the second floor of the hospital.

Sung Soo Park, the South Korean Ambassador to Uganda, noted that Uganda as one of Korea’s priority partners in Africa since 1963 deserved to benefit from the generous grant of USD 500,000 from the Korean governmen.

The project was established with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
