Masulita Sub County Wakiso District to Reap from UPDF Tarehe Sita Activities
Two days after the national and regional launch of the Tarehe Sita celebrations that are always held every year on the 6th of Febryary, A delegation of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces led by the Land Forces Chief of Staff Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda has today launched the activities in Masulita Sub county Wakiso District, the only area considered in Wakiso. Only other districts if Luwero, Nakasongola and Nakaseke that will take a lion’s share, Wakiso will only have one constituency of Busiro north benefiting.
Before the commencement of the event at the sub county playground, UPDF medical staff started with giving health services to the Wanainchi which included counseling and testing of Hiv, safe male circumcision,Malaria and other ailments treatment as a away of improving health services in the area. Additionally, UPDF is also constructing a maternity ward at Ki ziba HC III Masulita and s placenta pit. All the projects are expected to be completed by 5th Feb before the D-day of 6th feb.
The new maternity ward is expected to greatly reduce expectant mothers dying while giving birth.
Since the area is known to have been key in the liberation struggle, the UPDF has also renovated the monumental mass grave situated at the sub county headquarters. This was greatly applauded by the veterans.
The chief guest who is also the minister for Luwero triangle Hon Denis Ssozi Galabuzi led the Wananchi in the Inspection of the projects by the UPDF. He commended the work done by the UPDF and called on them to always offer them the same service since this area requires this critical service.
The chief guest further urged the youth not to be beguiled and misled by those promising new waves of change. ‘The changes promised are a mirage’ he warned. He urged the youth to utilise the peace in their country to fight poverty. He further asked them to embrace the correct ideology and remain focused.
Major General Leopold Kyanda Commended the more 1000 Wannainchi who turned up to grace the occasion. He called up Generals officers present to give their experience of the NRA liberation struggle. Maj Gen Sam Kiwanuka, Brig Gen Stephen Mugerwa and Brig Gen Emmy Mulindwa narrated their personnel experience which motivated them to join the NRA struggle. The trio’s stories about the brutalities of the UNLA soldiers occasioned on the Wanbainchi left a bigger section of the audience fighting back tears. The stories of the General officers prompted several Wanainchi to also share their sad experience with the past armies.
On the basis of the above, Maj gen Leopold Kyanda urged all those present to guard the gains of liberation so that the country does not retract back to those days. ‘Please maintain the peace you fought for’ He implored the attentive mammoth crowd. ‘The blood our brothers and sisters shed was not in Vain’.
Maj Gen Kyanda also said that, the UPDF is now focusing at strengthening the relationship between the locals and the UPDF to further guard the gains of liberation.
The Wanainchi who gave personnel testimonies commended the C in C for liberating the country from the york of brutalities. They further commended him for building a disciplined force in UPDF. This discipline,they said, signifies the pro people nature of our Army,
The UPDAF brass band and several cultural groups graced the function. The participants were later served a luncheon by the UPDF.
The main function of Tarehe sita will be held on Thursdays 6 Feb at Nskaseke district Hqs Butalangu grounds.
