The highly anticipated 19th edition of the Airtel Masaza Cup 2025 kicked off thrillingly as reigning champions Buddu faced off against five-time winners Gomba at the jam-packed Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka City. The atmosphere was electric as fans from across the Buganda region turned up in thousands, draped in team colours and singing rallying chants.
The day’s excitement was further elevated by the arrival of Oweek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of Buganda, who greeted fans and shared light moments with the representatives of the sponsors and other dignitaries.
The match itself lived up to expectations, with both teams showing immense determination and flair. Buddu, buoyed by home support and the confidence of being defending champions, started strong and maintained solid possession through the first half. Gomba, known for their tactical discipline and decorated tournament history, refused to be intimidated. They registered the most shots on goal and kept Buddu’s skipper on high alert.

As the second half unfolded, tension grew among fans, both in the stands and online, with the scoreboard locked at 0-0 by the 60th minute. The breakthrough finally came in the 75th minute when Seruwuuge Crispus delivered a sublime left-footed finish into the bottom right corner, sending Buddu fans into wild celebration.
