The State Minister for Internal Affairs Gen David Muhoozi has said the ongoing acts of murder in greater Masaka is intended to spread fear and terror among members of the public.

Gen Muhoozi was speaking in Parliament about the security threat in the greater Masaka area where a number of people have been killed by machete wielding men.

“The murders are not motivated by proprietary gain since nothing is taken from the victims. However, criminals in some few incidences had phones of victims, to communicate to the relatives of the victims. Whatever the intended effect is to cause fear, terror and apprehension in the public,” Gen Muhoozi said.

He assured the population that some suspects have been arrested in connection to the murders, adding that these machete -wielding thugs will be dealt with as soon as possible.

By press time, a total of 26 people had died and several others injured.

“A good number of them [suspects] are being processed for appearance in court so that is as far as the suspects are concerned. Their choice of method to push whatever agenda they are pushing, is not tenable because it is unpopular. You cannot choose to kill Ugandans for whatever reason. It is not justifiable,” he said.

He noted that more security officers have been deployed in these areas.

“We brought in even the technical wings, the K9 section has been reinforced and the other technical aspects which I am not at liberty to mention here. We have brought other specialised teams. We want to go deep to understand who the perpetrators are,” he said.
