Katwe Police are currently investigating a tragic double murder that took place today in Juuko zone, Makindye division, Kampala district.
The victims, identified as Rukundo Sharon, a 19-year-old housewife, and Kude, a man aged between 20 and 25 years, had been cohabiting for two years and had a child together. Their relationship, however, was plagued by frequent altercations.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson says preliminary investigations indicate that two weeks ago, Rukundo moved out of their home and sought refuge at her aunt’s residence in Juuko zone, where she worked at her aunt’s restaurant, Aunt Joan’s Restaurant.
At around 9 am today, Kude called Rukundo ’s aunt, issuing threats. Shortly after, he followed through with a fatal attack, beheading her. In response, local residents apprehended Kude and, in a tragic turn of events, beat him to death.
Onyango says the bodies were transported to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination, and police investigations are ongoing.
Onyango has urged citizens to report incidents of violence to the relevant authorities to prevent further tragedies.
