The Directorate of CID is investigating a case of aggravated defilement and abortion, involving a 17 year old female Senior three student.
It is alleged that the victim (names withheld ) was sexually abused by one Ndikuyezi Ramathan, a prominent Estate and fuel dealer in Kisoro district. Ndikuyezi later forced his victim to abort a pregnancy he was responsible for.
Preliminary investigations show that during the COVID lock down, the victim approached Ndikuyezi to work at his petrol station.
However, Ndikuyezi instead promised her a better job in his estate business that followed with the two engaging in a sexual affair that lasted until April 2022, when the victim realized she was pregnant.
Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police Spokesperson says the victim was forced to abort secretly, with the help of a medical person in Kisoro but the surgery suffered complications.
Enanga says the victim later left for Kampala and got a job as a maid at Musawo in Bukasa.
He says while there, she developed complications and was rushed to Quaum Medical Facility, where it was established that the fetus was still stuck in her womb.
The doctors then referred her to Nsambya Hospital for better treatment.
The victim, however, tells police that she is 19 years old and was an adult when she got involved with Ndikuyezi but the parents insist she is only 17.
“We are treating the matter as a priority and will ensure the rights of the victim are protected. What she has endured is painful and our team of counselors are handling her with sensitivity and respect.” Enanga says
The suspect faces charges of Human trafficking, Aggravated Defilement and Procuring an abortion.
