Man Allegedly Kills Girlfriend, Buries Body in Neighbor’s Garden
Police in Mityana are currently detaining a suspect in connection with the murder of his alleged girlfriend identified as Kobusingye Lydia.
Kyobusingye was murdered in cold blood on October 29, 2023, in Kakonde-Katwe village, Bulamu parish, Bulera subcounty, Mityana district.
The suspect, Tumukunde Jackson, was reportedly in a relationship with the deceased.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the misunderstanding between the couple began the night Kobusingye disappeared on October 24, 2023, when a missing person’s report was filed at police.
He says that on Sunday at approximately 11:00 AM, a resident identified as Nanyonjo Harriet Nalongo found the lifeless body of Kobusingye buried in their shared garden in Kakonde-Katwe village, Mityana district.
She made an alarm attracting other locals and authorities were promptly alerted. Owoyesigyire says police officers visited the crime scene to gather evidence and statements from relevant witnesses.
According to police, preliminary findings suggest that Kobusingye was last seen in the morning with her boyfriend, who is now the prime suspect. They were apparently working together in their garden before her disappearance.
Owoyesigyire revealed that the couple had a history of domestic disputes, which even led to a temporary separation at one point, though they later reconciled.
The victim’s body was recovered from a shallow grave near a makeshift structure within their garden. Disturbingly, her body had been wrapped in an old, torn mosquito net, and her head was bound with a polythene sack, believed to have been used for suffocation before her burial.
Currently, the boyfriend, Tumukunde Jackson, is in police custody at Mityana Central Police Station, while the deceased’s body has been transported to Mityana Hospital for a postmortem examination.
This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of reporting domestic violence and abuse to the authorities. Law enforcement agencies continue to urge victims to come forward, ensuring their safety and seeking justice for such grievous crimes.
