Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, 2nd Division Commander, Dies in Fatal Road Crash
Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, the 2nd Division Commander at Makenke, has tragically passed away following a fatal road crash along the Kampala-Masaka highway in Kalungu District earlier today.
The incident occurred at approximately 07:15 am when the Toyota Landcruiser (DO2DF 083), which was part of a convoy, collided with a Toyota Harrier (UBG 978).
According to the Traffic Spokesperson Michael Kananura, the accident happened when the Landcruiser, traveling from Masaka to Mbarara, brushed against the Harrier, which was heading in the opposite direction. The driver of the Landcruiser lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and crashing into a tree.
In the tragic aftermath, L/Corporal Aniku Zubaili, a member of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), was also confirmed dead at the scene. He died instantly from the injuries sustained. Six other UPDF officers were also injured in the accident and are currently receiving treatment in a nearby hospital. The convoy included Maj. Gen. Muhanguzi, who was confirmed dead after the crash.
The incident is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities, and further details will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
SP Kananura stated, “This was a tragic accident involving our security personnel. We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and will continue to investigate the causes of the crash.”
