The Chief of Joint Staff, Major General Jack Bakasumba, has called on Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officers to stand firm against corruption and support the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in promoting integrity and accountability within the military.

Addressing senior logistics officers at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs headquarters in Mbuya, Maj Gen Bakasumba reaffirmed the UPDF’s uncompromising position on corruption. “There is zero tolerance to corruption in the UPDF,” he stated. “The UPDF should lead by example in the fight against corruption.”

He emphasised that integrity is critical for leadership, noting that officers must earn the trust of their subordinates through ethical conduct. He also urged the use of logistics committees to strengthen oversight and ensure effective management of military resources.

Brigadier General Godwin Karugaba, Joint Staff Logistics, underscored the importance of such strategic engagements in refining logistics operations and improving service delivery.

He praised officers for their continued commitment to key operations, including AUSSOM and Operation Shujaa, despite facing logistical challenges. “We shall continue to develop and strengthen logistics control measures to improve overall performance,” Brig Gen Karugaba said.

Also present were Brig Gen Augustine Kyazze, Commandant of the Defence General Depot Magamaga; Col Steven Malinga, Director Logistics Land Force; and Col Elias Byamukama, Deputy Joint Staff Logistics Officer, among others.
