Lt Gen Muhanga Commends Maj Gen Olum at Mountain Division Handover Ceremony
The Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, has praised Maj Gen Dick Olum for his exemplary service in Operation Shujaa, which has facilitated the ongoing economic and social activities of the local populace in the joint forces’ operational areas.
Maj Gen Dick Olum, a seasoned military leader who has commanded the Mountain Division since 2022, handed over to Maj Gen Richard Otto, who brings extensive experience from his service in Somalia, the Central African Republic, and the 3 Infantry Division in Uganda.
“I thank Gen Olum for the work well done. Tour of duty is a must in the army. We wish Maj Gen Dick luck in his new duty station,” stated Lt Gen Muhanga during the handover ceremony of the Commander Mountain Division in Fort Portal. The event marked the transition of command from Maj Gen Dick Olum to Maj Gen Richard Otto.
Maj Gen Olum expressed gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa. He highlighted the achievements made during his tenure and wished his successor success.
The incoming Commander, Maj Gen Richard Otto, pledged to build on the solid foundation established by Lt Gen Muhanga, the first Commander of Operation Shujaa, and the accomplishments of Maj Gen Olum.
The ceremony was attended by Brig Gen Stephen Mugerwa, the second in command of Mountain Division; Brig Gen Kasaijja, Commander of the air wing in Entebbe; Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise, Commander of the Commando Brigade; Lt Col Jacob Apunia, representative of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo; and leaders from Kabarole district.
