A nasty car crash along the Fort Portal-Kampala Highway has left at least 23 passengers nursing grave injuries.

The accident involving Link Bus Reg. no UBF 967K and a truck happened on Tuesday at 2:00 am when the bus travelling from Kasese District to Kampala lost control and overturned severally, along the highway. The driver of the bus had a head-on collision with an oncoming truck and instead overturned.

According to police, the cause of the accident is smoke from a plywood factory located at Nabbingola that caused the road ahead to become foggy.

Police have since identified some of the injured as Precious Tumwinyare, Wilson Asaba, Walter Muhindo, Cissy Isingoma, Eden Katungo, Denis Bwambale, Kennedy Mumbere, Gerald Byomuhamgi, and Boniface Babala.

Others are Hope Abraham, Amon Akugizibwe, Angel Birungi, Esther Kavira, Musa Farouk, Kombi Mugoya and Bwambale Celestine all hospitalized at Mubende Hospital and private health facilities for treatment.

Link Bus has been on the spot for increased accidents along the road that have led to fatalities. Last year, 25 people perished in a fatal accident involving a Link Bus at Sebitoli along the Fort Portal-Kampala highway in Busoro Sub County.

The accident was caused by  over speeding from a driver identified as Paul Ssempagala who had over 20 years of experience. The driver was also captured driving with one arm while the other holding an object suspected to be a phone.
