Police in Kampala have confirmed that the lifeless body of a fruit vendor who vomited blood and collapsed dead has been picked up by relevant authorities for testing and a postmortem.

The deceased Christine Namuli, 36yrs, and a resident of Kasubi stirred panic and fear at the Nakasero Market in Kampala Central when she fell to the ground with blood oozing out of her mouth and ears.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says the deceased was going about her normal duties on Monday night at 8 pm when she suddenly started vomiting blood before falling to the ground dead.

Onyango explains that eye witnesses distanced from Namuli and called police officers from Nakasero Police Station. Onyango however says the police officers were unable to touch the deceased because they lacked the necessary gear and expertise, given that the deceased showed clear symptoms to the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

He says the officers informed Ebola Medical officers at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) who arrived at the scene later that night and transferred the body to Mulago hospital Mortuary.

According to Onyango, the Ebola team arrived in an ambulance car, took samples from the deceased before wrapping it in a black polythene bag.

He adds that they await a postmortem report from Mulago and sample test results from the Ministry of health on the possible cause of death.
