Katakwi District is registering significant progress under the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project, funded by the Government of Uganda, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF).
During his evaluation visit to the district, Hon. Raphael Magyezi, Minister for Local Government, praised the implementing team and beneficiaries for the strong collaboration that has enabled the project’s success. At a meeting with district leaders, he challenged them to produce a comprehensive report within two weeks, clearly outlining departmental roles, project relevance, and impact, an assessment that will guide the next steps as the project approaches closure.

According to the current status, Katakwi has benefited from infrastructure and economic investments in 15 categories; A major milestone is the construction of the 13km Ngariam Palam Ising road, now serving 30,618 residents in Ngariam and Palam Sub-counties. Additional completed facilities include the Ongongoja Farmers Produce Bulking Store and the Ocorimongin Market Sheds, the latter benefiting 237,000 people, while construction of the Ocorimongin Rice Processing Plant, expected to serve the same population, is ongoing.
