Kyambogo University Senior Lecturer Wanted for Alleged Sexual Assault on Disabled Student

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Dr. Eron Lawrence, a 56-year-old senior lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation at Kyambogo University.

Dr. Lawrence, also serving as the Project Administrator for “All We See Is Possibility” at the university, absconded police bond on December 14, 2023, following allegations of aggravated defilement involving a 16-year-old visually impaired student.

The suspect, accused of defiling a disabled girl under his care during a conference trip to Nairobi, Kenya, disappeared after his case file was processed on December 13, 2023. Dr. Lawrence faces charges under sections 129(3), 4(b), (c), and (d) of the Penal Code Acts, as he is HIV positive and holds a position of authority over the victim.

Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police spokesperson says investigations conducted reveal that Dr. Lawrence traveled with four students, including the 16-year-old victim, to Nairobi for a conference, returning on October 12, 2023. Dropping off students along the way, he eventually remained alone with the visually impaired victim in his car. Allegedly, the victim requested water during the journey, which was purchased at a supermarket in Nalya. After consuming the water, she fell unconscious and later realized she had been sexually assaulted.

Enanga says the victim disclosed the incident to her maternal uncle the next morning, who then reported it to Mukono police.  He explains that Post-rape treatment was administered, and DNA samples recovered from the suspect’s car matched those found on the victim’s body.

However, Enanga says that Dr. Lawrence absconded police bond, and his two sureties, Olobo Laweence (48) and Among Paul (54), are now tasked with producing him before Jinja Road Police Division.

He is calling on the public with any information to contact CID Headquarters, Headquarters, or the NOCC at 0776999136 to aid in bringing justice to the alleged victim of this heinous crime.
