MP Kivumbi Appointed NUP Deputy President for Buganda Region

The Butambala County MP, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, has been named Deputy President for the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the Buganda Region.

Kivumbi, who also chairs the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, replaces Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga, who was suspended following controversy over a UGX 500 million service award.

The appointments were announced by NUP Secretary-General David Rubongoya. Jacqueline Tukamushaba was named Deputy President for Western Uganda, succeeding the late Jolly Mugisha.

Other key appointments include Benjamin Katana as NUP representative to the National Consultative Forum, Geoffrey Bwambale as Deputy Secretary for Youth in Western Uganda, and Reverend Ben Byamugisha as Head for Elderly in the region. Harriet Ageno will serve as Secretary for Policy in the Lango sub-region, while Julius Magamba was assigned as Secretary for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Expressing his gratitude, Kivumbi pledged to strengthen NUP’s leadership and support efforts to oust the ruling NRM regime. He highlighted the need to empower young leaders and confront fear among Ugandans, which he described as a tool used by the regime to maintain control.

“We are fighting a dictatorial regime that has plundered our resources and instilled fear. Overcoming this fear is key to achieving justice and better leadership,” he said.
