Isaac Sendegeya, a prominent lawyer in Kisoro district has been shot dead. Sendegeya was killed at around 2 a.m. last night by yet to be identified gunmen who attacked his home at Nturo village.

Initial reports indicate that Sendegeya was opening the door to his house when gunmen closed in and shot him several times. He had been seen at a night club in Kisoro town, moments earlier.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate said that the deceased has shot from the back and his heart was shattered by bullets. He added that the body has now been taken to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for postmortem as investigations into the matter take shape.

Maate, however, expresses dismay that locals and relatives tampered with the crime scene long before police detectives arrived, a development which is likely to impede investigations. By the time police arrived, Sendegeya’s body had been removed from the point where he was shot from, to his sitting room.

Kisoro District Chairman Abel Bizimana says that the incident has left locals in shock and appeals to security agencies to improve their presence in the area.

In April 2019, Lambert Sabaho, the National Manager of the Rwandan based Isimbi Wine factory in Rwanda was shot outside his gate in Biniga village, Southern Division in Kisoro Municipality. Sabaho was riding a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UDS 105H to his residence when he was gunned down at around 10:20 p.m.
