Kira Municipality Set to Begin 9-Km Najeera-Kira-Bulindo-Kiwologoma Road Project
The Kira Municipal Council Mayor, Julius Mutebi Nsubuga, said that the Najeera-Kira-Bulindo-Kiwologoma road works are soon to commence and the project is expected to take 18 months.
Mayor Mutebi asked residents to be patient as the construction works commence.
“We have already started on the road works, and this 9-kilometer stretch from Najeera through Kira, Bulindo to Kiwologoma will take approximately 18 months, and we ask all the road users to be patient as the contractor works on the road,” Mutebi said.
When asked about the type of road and what residents should expect, Mutebi said that according to the plan, it’s going to be a good stretch, which Kira residents will enjoy.
“The road will be a dual carriage with a good drainage system and walk ways for the pedestrians and with street lights,“ Mutebi added.
He further explained that there are future projects in the pipeline like the Bweyogerere Buto-Namugongo road and the Kamuli Bethany road.
According to Swaibu Matovu, a boda boda cyclist, the road in question has been a death trap, as he has witnessed a few accidents on the road due to its current poor state.
“With the dust on this road, many of my colleagues have had accidents due to poor visibility; the potholes had also finished our motorcycles, and some accidents have also been due to some drivers trying to avoid potholes and they end up colliding with other motorists,” Matovu said.
Najeera-Kira-Kiwologoma stretch is a proposed project by the government of Uganda with a UGX 30 billion loan funded from the World Bank under the Greater Metropolitan Area.
The works are being done by China Chongqing International Construction Corporation (also known as CICO), a Chinese Construction and Engineering Company and subsidiary of Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Group Co. Ltd. (CFTEC). It is known as a project contractor for road building in Africa.
