Kiplangat Wins In Second Place At 2023 Osaka Marathon
Uganda’s Victor Kiplangat, 24, finished second in the 2023 Osaka Marathon that ended on Sunday in Osaka, Japan.
Ethiopia’s Hailemaryam Kiros was ahead of him in a time of 2:06:03.The Ethiopian was quickly to sprint to the finishing line to second ahead of Kiplangat to record a time of 2:06:01. Tanzania’s Aiphone Felix Simbu came third with a time of 2:06:19.
“It was a good race against a strong field of runners. I am glad I managed to finish second although I had the chance to win,” said Kiplangat, Uganda’s gold medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In the women’s category it was a 1-2 finish for the Ethiopia runners as Helen Bekele came top with a time of 2:2:16, while Beyenu Degefa followed with a time of 2:23:07.
The Osaka Marathon attracted other elite runners from Australia, USA, Morocco, Eritrea, South Africa, Italy, Spain and Mongolia among others.
