Kiplangat, Chesang, to Represent Uganda in 2024 Paris Olympics
The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has announced its marathon team for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics in August.
The team will feature some of Uganda’s top athletes, including Victor Kiplangat, the reigning 42-kilometer World Champion, and Stephen Kissa, the national marathon record holder, Stella Chesang, national record holder for full and half marathon among others.
President of UAF, Dominic Otuchet, revealed the selection criteria were based on athletes’ fastest seasonal times, as required by World Athletics and the Olympic Committee.
He mentioned that additional athletes for Track and Field events are still pursuing qualification marks, with the final team list to be unveiled as the qualification window closes.
“The track and field window is still open and as it closes, we will be able to unleash the final list for the entire team,” he said
Some of the mentioned altheles are in Europe for build up races while others remain training in Uganda.
Victor Kiplangat, who is currently the world marathon champion has appreciated UAF for providing ample time for the team to prepare.
The UAF’s selection aims to field a strong and competitive marathon team for the Paris Olympics, emphasizing the importance of early preparations and strategic training for success at the international level.
