Kiira Regional Police Command Enhances Safety Measures for New Year’s
As Uganda prepares to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025, the Kiira Regional Police Command is implementing proactive measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all residents and revelers.
Under the leadership of Regional Police Commander (RPC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Charles Nsaba, the police are committed to maintaining peace and order in the region, which includes Jinja, Buwenge, Kakira, and Bugembe Town Councils.
Speaking on the measures, Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) James Mubi, confirmed that the command is conducting joint patrols with sister security agencies, including the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), to prevent and respond to any security threats.
SP Mubi stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, cautioning against reckless behavior that endangers lives on the road. The police have also issued strong warnings against illegal activities such as burning tires on the roads.
SP Mubi highlighted that security agents, including detectives and crime intelligence officers, are on high alert to apprehend anyone engaging in criminal activities.
In line with the principle of “scold in private, praise in public,” SSP Nsaba commended his team for their vigilance and commitment, which enabled the region to have a largely crime-free Christmas celebration. His gesture has been widely appreciated as a sign of modern, people-centered leadership in the Uganda Police Force.
“Recognizing the value of team members is essential in today’s workplace, where employee engagement and satisfaction are crucial, even in the police force,” remarked a senior officer who chose to remain anonymous.
Despite the overall success, a minor incident was reported in Bwase Zone, Buwenge Town Council, where a driver crashed into a building belonging to Asiya Mirembe, causing significant damage. Police swiftly arrested a female occupant of the vehicle, who was found to be intoxicated.
The Kiira Regional Police Command is urging all residents and revelers to prioritize road safety and avoid reckless behavior to ensure a joyful start to 2025.
SP Mubi emphasized the importance of adhering to the motto “Prevention Is Better Than Cure” and provided a series of safety reminders to minimize incidents and promote a peaceful atmosphere.
Key Safety Guidelines:
Drinking and Driving: The police caution against drinking and driving and encourage revelers to plan ahead by designating a sober driver or using alternative transportation.
Children’s Safety: Residents are reminded to closely monitor minors and avoid leaving them unattended. Past tragedies, such as house fires, have claimed young lives when children were left alone. The police warn that parents or guardians whose negligence results in harm or death to children will face prosecution on charges of murder and negligence.
Fire Safety: To prevent fire outbreaks, residents are advised not to leave burning charcoal stoves or electrical appliances, such as kettles, unattended, especially at night.
Home Security: Families should ensure their properties are secure to deter criminal activities during the festive period.
SP Mubi urged parents to arrange for trusted caregivers when going out, ensure their homes are safe and secure, and keep emergency contact numbers handy. He also encouraged parents to educate children on basic safety procedures, including steps to take in case of a fire.
“By taking simple precautions and being mindful of our responsibilities, we can ensure a happy and safe celebration for everyone,” SP Mubi said, extending his best wishes to all as they transition into 2025.
With these measures, the Kiira Regional Police Command is working tirelessly to create a safe environment for residents and revelers, ensuring the New Year begins on a positive and secure note.
