Kenya has recorded its highest number of Covid-19 positive cases in a 24-hour period since the first case was reported in February.
The 307 new cases come from a sample of 3,591 tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the caseload to 6,673, Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman said on Wednesday in Nairobi during the daily briefing.
Of the new cases, 215 are male while 92 are female, ranging from one year to 81 years. Some 289 of them are Kenyans while 18 are foreigners.
The CAS said 600 people are currently on home-based care, while a total of 187 medical workers have been infected with the virus.
Fifty more people have been discharged from hospital bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,089, while the death toll rose to 149 after one more person died overnight, Dr Aman said.
The number of positive cases is high because many people are not adhering to containment measures advised by the government, he said.
The number of infections is likely to go up in July and August, and Kenya will likely reach its peak in September, Dr Aman added.
