Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club has officially withdrawn its appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the points deduction imposed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
The dispute stems from a Uganda Premier League match played on January 7, 2025, in Mbarara, where KCCA defeated Mbarara City FC 2-0. However, FUFA later overturned the result, awarding a 3-0 victory to Mbarara City after discovering that KCCA had fielded defender Gavin Kizito Mugweri, who was ineligible to play due to having accumulated three consecutive yellow cards.
FUFA’s disciplinary ruling not only reversed the match result but also stripped KCCA of the three points, handing them to Mbarara City. The decision sparked controversy, prompting KCCA to seek redress through the international sports justice system.
KCCA had filed an appeal with CAS and reportedly paid a petition fee of USD 1,000. However, the club has now opted to drop the case, citing procedural delays in meeting certain requirements needed for the appeal to proceed.
With the case withdrawn, the points awarded to Mbarara City remain intact, and the league standings will not be altered.
KCCA has not yet issued a formal statement addressing the implications of the withdrawal but is expected to focus on the remainder of the season.
