The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced the temporary closure of Allen Road and Ssebaana Road to facilitate major drainage improvement works along the Nakivubo Channel.
According to a public notice issued on Thursday, the roads will be closed to traffic from Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 9:00 p.m., and are expected to reopen on Monday, November 10, 2025. The works form part of ongoing efforts to enhance stormwater flow into the Nakivubo Channel and mitigate the risk of flash floods in the city.
KCCA emphasized that the intervention is aimed at strengthening Kampala’s flood resilience and minimizing disruptions to businesses and commuters, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Motorists traveling from Ben Kiwanuka Street are advised to use alternative routes, including Burton Street, William Street, Wilson Road, Kafumbe Mukasa Road, Martin Road, Ssemugooma Road, and Mwanga II Road.
The Authority urged road users to observe diversion signs, follow safety guidelines, and cooperate with traffic marshals deployed to manage vehicle flow during the closure.
“KCCA calls for cooperation as we work to make Kampala a safer, flood-resilient city. Any inconvenience caused is regretted,” the notice read.
The drainage works are part of KCCA’s broader infrastructure improvement programme aimed at modernizing urban roads and reducing flood-related disruptions across Kampala.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works and Transport has announced a temporary closure of a section of the Mbarara-Ishaka Road to allow for emergency maintenance works.
According to a notice signed by Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa, the closure will affect the stretch from Km 3+500 (Ruharo) to Km 3+900 (roundabout at Buffalo restaurant) and maintenance works will take place at Km 3+700 (at Woodland Gardens).
The works are scheduled for Friday, 7 November 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight).
The Ministry urged drivers of heavy trucks and buses to use alternative routes via the Mbarara by-pass (at Coca-Cola and Ruti roundabouts) or Ntungamo-Kyakami road for light vehicles to avoid traffic congestion.
“We regret any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation,” the notice reads.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and observe all traffic signs and instructions during the maintenance period.
